DANVILLE, KY – Centre College debuted its newest indoor track facility on Saturday, with the Tigers earning 3rd place with 109 team points.
Sprints led the way for the Tigers on Saturday. The 400m was the highlight of the day for the team, with a podium sweep coming from
Jamila Garba,
KaNiya Douglas, and
Victoria Young. Garba won the event in the home straight, narrowly missing sub-60 with her time at 1:00.05. Douglas was the runner-up in 1:01.68; Young made her season debut in the event in 1:01.86.
LaAuhnni Lewis and
Jaci Johnson gave the Tigers ten points from the 60m. Lewis was the runner-up with her effort of 7.98, while Johnson placed 7th in 8.15. Johnson,
Piper Clark, and Lewis teamed up to earn 12 points from the 200m. Johnson placed 3rd overall at 26.84, Clark was 5th at 27.03, and Lewis rounded out the trio in 7th with a time of 27.41.
Nina Daman gave Campbellsville four points from her 800m run. She placed 5th overall with an open 800m PR of 2:39.20.
Hailey Shank and
Emma Steff brought in 11 points from the 1,000m run. Shank earned her first win of the season in 3:11.66, while Steff was 8th at 3:33.39.
26 points came out of the 5,000m run for the Tigers. Shank, Danan, Steff,
Madison Welch, and
Anna Claire Carwile placed 2-6. Shank was the runner-up in 19:03.07, Daman earned the bronze in 19:50.52, Steff placed 4th in 20:42.17, Welch was 5th in 23:07.40, and Carwile placed 6th at 23:11.51.
Makiyah Allen won her 60m hurdle event at the line when she outleaned Midway's Taniyah Hines by .01 seconds in 9.15.
In the field events,
TaMya Davis brought back one point by placing 8th in the high jump with her mark of 1.40m.
Ariana Simmons also placed 8th in the pole vault, clearing 2.13m on her second attempt. Davis and
Dasia Garland were able to earn six points in the long jump. Davis was 5th, with her best jump coming on her second jump of 4.80m, while Garland was 7th with a mark of 4.69m.
Garland was the lone scorer in the triple jump. She hit her best jump twice in her third and sixth attempts of 10.38m.
Campbellsville will return to the track on Friday, January 26th, when they travel to the University of Indianapolis.
