LOUISVILLE, KY – Campbellsville came to race this morning at one of the premier meets in the nation, placing 6th at the Live in Lou Classic in a new school record time.
Dominic Malel finished as the runner-up for the second straight meet for the Tigers. Malel ran a lifetime best en route to his 2nd place finish in 24:29.9. Malel is now 6.2 seconds off, besting the current school record in the 8K distance held by graduate assistant
Isaac Kiprop.
Lukas Smithson made the biggest impact on the day for Campbellsville. Coming into today, Smithson's best was 25:53.30. This morning, he ran a 25-second personal best running 25:28.00, placing 22nd, and is now 7th on the all-time list.
Martin Batel was close behind Lukas in 33rd place, running 25:38.4, which is 6.3 seconds off, tying his best set at the IWU Twilight earlier this season.
Coming in as the fourth man was
Dakota Brady. Brady made his first appearance in the Tigers top five this season this morning, placing 103rd overall in 26:27.00.
Jean-Benoit Merte was the fifth man in for the team in 106th and running 26:28.3.
Rounding out the Tigers top seven were
Myles Smithson and
Samuel Bennett. Myles was 128th in the race at 26:44.8, and Bennett was close behind in 146th place and crossing the line at 26:56.4.
As a team, Campbellsville set the team average time school record by 12 seconds with a new record time of 25:42.32. The previous school record was set back at the NAIA National Championship in 2018 of 25:54.00. The team's spread was 1:58.7, with 246 team points placing, 6th overall.
Campbellsville will now look towards the end of the month when they travel to Grand Rapids, Michigan, for the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge on October 26th.
- Lukas Smithson now sits at 7th on the all-time top ten list and is only four seconds away from tying for 6th.
- Dominic Malel will only need 6.2 seconds to tie the school record for fastest 8K in program history.
