COLUMBIA, Ky. — The Tigers took on the Virginia-Lynchburg VUL Dragons Saturday afternoon in their last day of the Lindsey Wilson Classic. Four Tigers scored double digits in a hot shooting afternoon to advance Campbellsville to a 3-0 start.
The Dragons were the first to score, earning points at the charity stripe. After a cold start,
Jay Milburn put the Tigers on the board and
Javaughn Smith quickly followed with a finish around the basket. Following another layup from Milburn, Campbellsville jumped to a 14-1 run and held the Dragons under double-digit points halfway through the half. Throughout the run, Tigers' Smith,
Cobe Penny, and
Dalton Kramer all caught fire and hit back-to-back three's. Continuing the hot streak, Smith shared the wealth to
KJ Banks leading to another go-ahead three-pointer in the final moments of the first half. Campbellsville went into halftime leading, 53-25.
Just 40 seconds in, Kramer earned the Tigers' sank a three to keep the distance shooting going. After a two-minute scoring drought from both teams, Smith ended the drought with another deep ball after assisting the last two triples. Halfway into the half,
James Jewell stepped up to the charity stripe and gave the Tigers' a 37-point lead. Concluding the second half, Campbellsville finished out strong and took the win, 98-55.
The Tigers are back in action Friday, November 8th, opening Powell for their own classic and face off against the Brewton-Parker College Barons. The game is set to begin at 7 p.m. ET.
- Kramer led the Tigers in scoring with 21 points and three steals, Ra Briggs grabbed 15 boards, Penny shared the wealth seven times, Milburn and Banks each had a block.
- The Tigers bested the Dragons in all categories, but a standout was Campbellsville's 26 offensive rebounds compared to the Dragons' four. The Tigers' held the lead for 38:13 only giving the Dragons 36 seconds in the forefront.
- The win marked the second 3-0 start in the Brent Vernon era with their last perfect start happening in the 2017-18 season.
