Campbellsville crafts big second half to break away from Brewton-Parker

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Tigers hosted the Brewton-Parker College Barons Friday night for their first matchup of the Campbellsville Classic. On the back of an explosive second half (both offensively and defensively), Campbellsville ran away with it, 99-65.

Commencing the first half, the Tigers' were on the board less than 30 seconds in with a layup from Dalton Kramer. An opening run from the Tigers gave them an 8-2 advantage, but the Barons went on their own spree and grabbed the lead with less than 13 minutes remaining in the first half. Jay Milburn ended the Barons' run and a Tiger scoring drought with a lay-in pushing Campbellsville within a point. The teams traded points, but the Tigers bided their time and pushed to the forefront in the scoring race. Though Campbellsville could not buy a three-pointer their defense created offensive opportunities to hold a steady lead. Kramer knocked down the first three of the game for the Tigers with 1:40 remaining and immediately followed with two more successful three-point attempts. Going into the half, the Tigers held a 13-point lead, 43-30.

Marcellus Vail opened the second half continuing the hot streak from the first half securing his first deep ball of the game and the first for the squad of the second half. Swiftly after Vail's triple, KJ Banks followed his own shot and layed it in to give Campbellsville their largest lead of the game at 18 points. After securing a rebound, Kramer pushed the floor and found Tiger Javaughn Smith running the floor for a flush. In the final minutes of the contest, Campbellsville consistently created opportunity after opportunity from fast breaks, busting the full court press the Barons were attempting. When the final horn sounded, the score was 99-65 for the Tigers.
