LOUISVILLE/OWENSBORO, KY –
Alexia Schofield made her season debut in a big way over the weekend, hitting the #3 best mark in the nation in the triple jump.
Campbellsville was split up into two separate squads over the weekend. The majority of the team traveled to Owensboro, KY, for the Bearcat Invitational, while the distance crew journeyed to Louisville, KY, for the Jim Vargo Invitational.
Schofield was able to hit a mark of 12.12m, only .20m behind her school record set last season. She won the event with
Dasia Garland and
Layla Taylor backing her up. Garland was the runner-up in the event with a mark of 10.98m, while Taylor placed 5th in 9.81m.
Campbellsville earned 15 points from the long jump, with
TaMya Davis leading the way in 4th place. Davis hit a mark of 5.06m,
Maggie Jewell was behind Davis in 5th at 4.70m,
Ariana Simmons placed 6th in 4.41m, Garland was 7th at 4.39m, and
Mikhiya Jones was 8th overall in 4.01m.
Kayla Barr led the Tigers in the throws with a 1st place coming from the discus. She threw for a collegiate-best mark of 34.92m. Jenetta Darnell was 5th in the discus at 30.06m, and Taylor placed 6th throwing for 26.03m. In the shot put, Darnell led the way with her 4th place mark of 10.46m. Barr placed 5th behind Darnell at 10.16m, and Taylor was 6th overall with a throw of 9.27m.
Simmons gave Campbellsville eight points with her runner-up finish with a height of 2.20m. Davis and Jones were the final point scorers in the field events on the weekend. Davis was 2nd in the high jump with a height of 1.45m, and Jones was 3rd overall at 1.40m.
On the track, the Tigers had five different event wins. Schofield had her second win of the day with her season debut in the 200m in a time of 25.10.
LaAuhnni Lewis was 4th in the 200m at 26.62. Earlier in the day, Lewis was the runner-up in the 100m behind
Jaci Johnson's victory. Johnson won the 100m in 12.38 while Lewis was 12.61. Simmons was 4th in the 100m in a time of 13.25.
KaNiya Douglas earned her first victory of the outdoor season in the 400m. She was only .30 behind her personal best in the event, running 58.56.
Piper Clark was the runner-up behind Douglas in 59.22.
Victoria Young ran in the open 800m for the first time this season and ran a personal best of 2:26.09.
Cailyn Godsey competed in the 5,000m racewalk for the first time in her career. She crossed the line at 32:54.46.
Makiyah Allen won both the 100m and 400m hurdles events over the weekend. In the 100m, she ran 14.88, only .20 off the school record. In the 400m hurdles, she won with a time of 1:12.86. Maggie Jewel earned the bronze medal in the 100m in 18.32, and
Ariana Simmons was 4th in 19.01.
The 4x400m relay team was the final event win of the day. Young, Johnson, Clark, and Douglas ran a time of 3:59.17.
In Louisville,
Hailey Shank and
Nina Daman were the key highlights for the Tigers. Shank was 14th in the 5,000m run in 18:17.69. Daman ran a personal best in the 10,000m run in 39:27.37, placing 6th.
The Tigers will split-squad once again this upcoming weekend. They will be competing at the Centre Twilight on Friday, April 12th, and the Gordon Bullock Cumberlands Invitational & Distance Carnival on Friday, April 12th, and Saturday, April 13th.
