Schofield puts on dominant performance winning three events leading Tigers to 2nd place at NCCAA Championships

COLUMBIA, SCAlexia Schofield continued her 2024 reign at the NCCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships, winning three events and leading the Tigers to a runner-up finish.

Campbellsville finished with 122 team points beating out third place by three points at 119.

Schofield was responsible for 33 of those 122 points this week. In the triple jump, she improved her school record to 12.42m, winning 1.17m over the runner-up. That mark now puts her ranked 2nd in the NAIA, only .04m behind the leader. Dasia Garland joined Schofield on the podium in the triple jump with the bronze medal and a mark of 11.20m.

In the long jump, she set a personal best, breaking the 6.00m barrier for the first time in her career at 6.01m ahead of teammate Alexia Boyd, earning the silver medal at 5.91m, a season-best for Boyd. Both Schofield and Boyd are ranked in the top ten in the NAIA in the long jump. In the 200m, Schofield won while improving her school record. She ran 23.83 in the finals to win; in the preliminary round, she ran a time of 23.67. Schofield now ranks 5th in the NAIA in the 200m. Schofield was named the Field Athlete of the Meet.

In what was considered to be the race of the entire NCCAA Championships, Hailey Shank and Nina Daman finished in the top two spots in the 10,000m run. In the first 22 laps of the 25 lap race, the field was grouped up. In the final three laps of the race, Shank, Daman, and Grace College's CeCe Mitchell made a move to separate. Shank made her winning move over Mitchell in the final 200m. Daman was sitting in third place heading into the final 100m and eventually outkicked Mitchell in the final 50m of the race to secure the runner-up spot. Shank ran a personal best time in her debut at the event of 39:22.86, while Daman ran a personal best time of 39:26.24. Both Shank and Daman scored a combined six points in the 5,000m. Shank was 5th at 18:54.20, and Daman was 7th at 19:10.68.

The 4x400m relay of Victoria Young, Jaci Johnson, KaNiya Douglas, and Piper Clark put on a dominant performance in the event with a time of 3:51.57, 7.02 seconds ahead of second place. Earlier in the day, Douglas won the 400m with a time of 57.35. Clark earned three points in the 400m in 6th at 59.31. Clark set the school record last week at the Mid-South Conference Championships with her time of 56.93.

Boyd found her second podium finish of the championships in the 100m finals, where she placed 3rd overall in 11.85 and is currently ranked 15th in the NAIA. Johnson scored two points in the 100m finals, placing 7th in 12.21. She came back with a 6th-place performance at 24.93.

Makiyah Allen narrowly missed a podium finish in the 100m hurdles when she ran a 14.40 in the finals, placing 4th. That time is only .06 off her school record set earlier this season. In the 400m hurdles, she placed 5th overall with a time of 1:06.99. Allen set the 400m hurdle school record earlier in the week at the Mid-South Conference Championships of 1:06.06.

The relay of Shank, Brianna Collins, Emma Steff, and Young gave Campbellsville another bronze medal for the meet in the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:47.83.

Schofield and TaMya Davis produced five points in the high jump. Schofield was 6th with a height of 1.59m, while Davis cleared 1.53m, placing 7th.
