MARION, IN – Alexia Schofield earned yet another NAIA All-American honor Thursday evening while the 4x400m relay team qualified for finals.
Schofield tied her career best finish at the NAIA Championships. She placed 3rd overall with a mark of 12.63m on her second attempt of the day. That mark shatters her previous record set at the NCCAA Championships of 12.42m. Dasia Garland was unable to record a mark during the preliminary round.
The 4x400m relay had to break their own school record to qualify for the finals. Victoria Young, KaNiya Douglas, Jaci Johnson, and Piper Clark ran 3:48.99, breaking their previous record by 2.31 seconds. The team is the sixth going into Friday's final.
Alexia Boyd finished out her career for the Tigers on Thursday. She was one spot off qualifying for the finals in the 100m with her time of 11.82. The final results of the preliminary round had to be rounded to the thousandth of a second to decide who earned the ninth spot. Emma Johnson of Columbia International was at 11.815, while Boyd was at 11.820.
Makiyah Allen placed 24th in her second appearance at the NAIA Championships. She crossed the line in 14.91 in the 100m hurdles.
Douglas ran in the 400m prelims on Thursday placing 14th with her time of 56.73, besting her previous record by .20 seconds.
Schofield will have the 200m finals while the 4x400m relay team will have the finals on Friday. They will have one last opportunity Friday to claim NAIA All-American honors and will need to place in the top eight of the nine athlete and team field in each event.
