COLUMBIA, Ky. – Saturday, the Tigers sought to bounce back against Lindsey Wilson after the week's earlier hard-fought, conference loss to (RV) Cumberlands. Another gritty game was ahead of them, but this time the Tigers prevailed, 63-60.
Campbellsville got on the board in their first possession with Jay Milburn finding the bottom of the net. Lindsey Wilson wouldn't take the lead until 11-10 with 13:30 left in the contest's opening half. Following that point, the lead changed seven times as both squad's defenses took their energy up a level. Neither team shot particularly well (the Tigers with 41% and the Blue Raiders with 38%) as a result. As the time ticked down, Campbellsville trailed by as many as five points before outscoring Lindsey Wilson 9-1 in the last three minutes just before halftime.
Virtually even statistically (save for Campbellsville leading in fouls (nine to four) and points in the paint (18 to eight), and turnovers (five to nine)), the second half saw neither team make a shot from the field until Milburn powered in a layup. Kam Vick followed that up with a three to net the Tigers their largest advantage at seven. Shortly after, a Milburn deep ball pushed the advantage to nine. However, much like the first half, neither team would cede defeat. The Blue Raiders climbed back to take the lead and make things white-knuckle the rest of the way with ten minutes remaining. Despite briefly moving ahead, Campbellsville refused to allow Lindsey Wilson the advantage again, despite the fact they never grew their lead beyond six the rest of the way. The contest was tied up with 35 seconds left off of a Blue Raider three, but Milburn sank crucial free throws on the next possession to move ahead a score. With 1.7 seconds to go, the Tigers sent the Blue Raiders to the free-throw line, but they missed both. A Dalton Kramer rebound and successful free throw assured, with just .4 seconds left and Lindsey Wilson without a timeout, that Campbellsville would earn their first Mid-South Conference win of the season, 63-60.
- Milburn and Cobe Penny led the way with their 19 and 17 points respectively. That matched Milburn's second-highest point total on the season and first 19-point game since November 2nd.
- Milburn, Kramer, and Ra Briggs all had six rebounds and Penny had five. Speaking of Briggs and Penny, the discernible difference between the two teams ended up being bench play: the Tigers' reserves outscored the Blue Raiders' 28 to 15.
- Campbellsville has won four of their last five match-ups against Lindsey Wilson, losing last year 103-94 at their gym.
