MIDWAY, Ky.- The Tigers took the road to battle the Midway University Eagles on Monday night. Campbellsville's avid teamplay, with nearly double as many assists as Midway, earned them the victory, 87-79.
The Eagles scored the first basket of the game in the paint. The Tigers retaliated, but Midway remained ahead. The Eagles' layups widened the gap on the scoreboard, and Campbellsville continued to fall behind. Kam Vick and Jay Milburn brought the Tigers within a few points from the lead. Both teams' buckets beyond the arc set the pace for the rest of the half, as the action on the court only heightened, and the score remained tight. Campbellsville stole the lead from the charity stripe, closing the first half leading, 37-36.
In the opening seconds of the second half, Midway reclaimed the upper hand with back-to-back layups. Dalton Kramer prevented the Eagles from extending their advantage, keeping the Tigers only a couple of points behind. Both teams went on to steal the lead back-and-forth, neither able to grasp the advantage for long. Halfway through the second half, the defensive efforts on the court kept the game low-scoring. With heavy-foul play in the following minutes of the game, Campbellsville and Midway faced a few opportunities at the charity stripe. Vick and Kramer remained driving forces for the Tigers to claw their way up the lead, as they held a five-point advantage over the Eagles. Campbellsville's offense only strengthened, increasing their advantage. The Tigers closed the game with a victory, 87-79.
The Tigers will be back in action, traveling to Henderson, Tennessee, to battle the Freed-Hardeman University Lions on Thursday, January 23rd, beginning at 8:30 p.m. ET.
