Tigers fall in 76-56 loss to Lions

HENDERSON, Tenn.- The Tigers took the road to battle the #2 Freed-Hardeman Lions on Thursday night. Despite a tight score at the half, Campbellsville fell to Freed-Hardeman, 76-56.

In the opening minutes of the game, the Lions set the tone for a high-intensity game as they scored their first dunk of the night. Cobe Penny quickly responded from the free-throw line, tying the game. Both sides saw a series of turnovers, defensive rebounds, and missed layups as both pressured the other off their end of the court. Freed-Hardeman claimed their lead from beyond the arc, but Kam Vick kept Campbellsville close with avid jumpers. Jay Milburn and Keaston Brown connected on critical three-pointers, attempting to narrow the gap on the scoreboard. Ra Briggs came off the bench with strong defensive forces to stop the Lions from clawing their way up the lead. Freed-Hardeman followed, elevating their defense, and the game found back-and-forth play with blocked shots and defensive stands, determined to grasp the upper hand. At the half, the Tigers trailed, 36-34.

As the second half began, Campbellsville and Freed-Hardeman traded momentum in a closely contested game. The Lions capitalized off the Tigers' missed shots, collecting defensive rebounds and earning control over the ball. Dalton Kramer retaliated from beyond the arc; however, Campbellsville's fouls brought Freed-Hardeman to the charity stripe, increasing their advantage. Milburn and Briggs scored key layups to bring the Tigers closer to the lead, but the Lions' offensive strikes proved too strong for Campbellsville to steal the lead. At the end of the game, the Tigers fell to the Lions, 76-56.

The Tigers will be back in action, traveling to McKenzie, Tennessee, to battle the Bethel University Wildcats on Saturday, January 25th, beginning at 3 p.m. ET.

  • Four Tigers reached double digits throughout tonight's game: Vick with 13 points, Penny and Milburn with 11, and Brown with ten points. Banks led with seven rebounds, Vick with four assists and six field goals.
  • Campbellsville's history against Freed-Hardeman dates back to 1996; since then, they have only earned seven wins. Tonight's loss extended the Tigers' losing streak to eight consecutive defeats against the Lions.
