Tigers fall to Bethel in close 72-64 battle

MCKENZIE, Tenn.- The Tigers took the road to battle the Bethel University Wildcats on Saturday night. Despite Campbellsville's fierce efforts throughout the development of the second half, Bethel took the victory, 72-64.

From the opening stages of the game, the Wildcats gained early momentum with their efficient scoring and defensive forces. Bethel scored smooth jumpers and layups to assert dominance on the court, taking the lead as the Tigers struggled to find rhythm with several missed shots. The Wildcats' defensive stops resulted in multiple rebounds and buckets that continued to push Campbellsville farther down on the scoreboard. Halfway through the first half, the Tigers elevated their offensive strikes as TyShay Epps collected a few points in the paint. However, Bethel's dominance from beyond the arc hindered Campbellsville's progress towards the advantage. At the end of the first half, the Tigers trailed the Wildcats, 38-20.

Bethel remained strong in the opening of the second half, with key free-throws and racking up several baskets in the paint. Campbellsville managed to find their rhythm as the second half unfolded, Cobe Penny leading the offense in attempts to narrow the gap on the scoreboard. The Tigers clawed their way up the scoreboard, approaching the advantage. However, the Wildcats' defense preserved Bethel's dominance on the court, limiting Campbellsville's second-chance opportunities. As the Tigers approached the Wildcats' upper hand, Bethel capitalized off Campbellsville's fouls to increase their advantage from the charity stripe. Despite the Tigers' late efforts to strike back, the Wildcats took the victory, 72-64.

The Tigers will be back in action on Thursday, January 30th, when they host the #1 Georgetown College Tigers, beginning at 7:30 p.m. ET.

  • Three Tigers reached double digits throughout the game: Penny with 22 points, Dalton Kramer with 15, and Marcellus Vail with 13. Additionally, Jay Milburn led with nine rebounds, and Ra Briggs with four blocks.
  • Campbellsville's history against Bethel stretches back to 1966; after tonight's game, the Tigers have collected seven wins and six losses against the Wildcats, currently holding a streak of two consecutive losses.
