GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.- The Tigers took the road to compete in the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge on Saturday. The Campbellsville men ran the 8k, while the women competed in the 5k run. Martin Batel led the way for the program, taking his first-ever win as a Tiger.
Batel won the race with a time of 25:26.40, beating out the second-place finisher by 30 seconds.
Nathan Sury, Aaron Smith, and Samuel Larson followed in the top 30 runners. Sury placed 12th with 26:16.50, Smith in 19th with 26:27.10, and Larson in 30th with 26:37.90.
Following within the top 200 came Ethan Johnson, Austin Barnes, and Dustin Ralph. Johnson finished in 106th with 27:55.50, Barnes in 134th with 28:21.50, and Ralph in 166th with 28:50.50.
Mathew Mattingly and Corbin Hale also ran for the Tigers, placing 204th with 29:39.00 and 269th with 34:30.00, respectively.
Larson, Ralph, Mattingly, and Hale all recorded new personal best times during the race.
Campbellsville men placed 4th as a team.
Emma Madding led the women's team, finishing in the top 55 runners, placing 54th with a time of 20:11.50. Julia Smaldone and Karly Spalding followed for the Tigers in the top 100, finishing at 94th with 21:06.00 and 99th with 21:17.00, respectively.
Anna Claire Carwile, Maggie Jewell, Amelia Larson, and Becca Stringer also ran for Campbellsville, finishing in the top 150. Carwile placed 101st with 21:19.20, Jewell in 114th with 21:31.90, Larson in 129th with 21:53.20, and Stringer in 148th with 22:25.70.
Madding, Smaldone, Spalding, Carwile, Larson, and Stringer all collected new personal best times during the race.
Campbellsville women placed 17th as a team.
The Tigers will be back in action, traveling to Bowling Green, Kentucky, to race in the Mid-South Conference Championship on Friday, November 7th.
