Allen wins 100m hurdles at Lee University, Barr earns runner-up in two events at Transylvania

CLEVELAND, TN – The Tigers were split up into two groups over the weekend with one group at the Lee University Invitational and the other at the Pioneer Invitational in Lexington, KY.

Makiyah Allen had a busy weekend at the Lee University Invitational. She won the 100m hurdles on a (0.5 wind) in 14.52 over Tennessee Wesleyan's Samanth DeGrace, who finished in 14.64. Allen was 5th overall in the 100m (1.7 wind) with a time of 12.50, and in 200m, she was able to earn an 8th place finish of 26.10. 

Dasia Garland was top ten in both the long jump and triple jump at the Lee University Invitational. In the long jump, she was 10th with a mark of 5.10 (1.1 wind) on her first jump of the day. She improved her placement in the triple jump with a best mark of 10.88m, placing 4th in the finals. 

At Transylvania, Brianna Collins placed 5th in the 800m in 2:37.21. Collins was the runner-up in the 1500m with a personal best time of 5:11.51. Julia Smaldone ran her debut at the 1500m distance with an early season-best time of 5:29.55, placing 7th in the event. Emma Madding brought in six points from the 5,000m run with an early outdoor season best of 19:35.88, placing 3rd. 

Cailyn Godsey, Collins, Maggie Jewell, and Smaldone placed 3rd as a team in the 4x400m relay in 4:44.07. 

For the field events, Kayla Barr led the way, earning runner-up in the hammer throw with a personal best mark of 37.34m on her fourth throw of the day. She was only .22m off a podium finish in the discus with a mark of 31.70m, placing 4th. Her final event of the day was the shot put, where she placed runner-up with a best mark of 10.54m on her final throw of the day. 

Layla Taylor earned 11 points out of her three events over the weekend. In the shot put, she placed 5th at 7.80m; for the discus, she threw for a personal best mark of 26.86m, placing 6th, and she was 5th with a mark of 30.54m. 

Campbellsville earned seven points in the long jump from Kenniqua Grate and Mikhya Jones. Grate was 5th at 4.52m, and Jones earned 6th at 4.26m. 

Campbellsville will return to the track March 28-29. On March 28th, they will be at the Blue Raider Invitational at Lindsey Wilson College, and on both the 28th and 29th, they will have a separate team travel to the UAB Spring Invitational in Birmingham, Alabama.
