COLUMBIA, KY & BIRMINGHAM, AL – The Tigers took on the high winds over the weekend at the Blue Raider Rumble, Lindsey Wilson College's first home meet in seven years.
Wind was an early factor in determining how the race strategy would be broken down for the Tigers. In the 100m,
Makiyah Allen won the 100m in 11.81.
Alexzandria Rivers earned the final point for the team in the 100m, placing 8th in 12.85. However, with the wind at 5.8, the times were not eligible for records or NAIA National A or B Standard cuts.
Piper Clark and Rivers combined for nine points in the 200m. Clark was the runner-up by only .05 seconds at 26.23, while Rivers placed 8th again in 28.93. In the 400m, Clark won the event by 1.30 seconds in 58.52 over Lindsey Wilson's Ta'Shya Cramer.
Campbellsville racked up the points across the three distance events.
Christy Shank made her outdoor debut in the 800m and 1500m. Shank won the 800m in 2:25.37,
Maggie Jewell was the runner-up in the 800m at 2:40.85,
Jennifer Buttery placed 4th at 243.13,
Anna Claire Carwile was 5th in 2:45.23,
Cailyn Godsey earned 6th at 2:49.31, and
Shelby Paige was 7th overall in 2:50.05.
Shank won the 1500m by 27.34 seconds in 4:56.11. The Tigers earned spots 4-8 in the 1500m. Carwile placed 4th overall in 5:29.50, Buttery earned 5th in 5:43.20, Jewell was 6th in 5:48.40, Paige placed 7th in the group at 5:51.65, and Godsey rounded out the scoring in 8th at 5:57.52.
Nina Daman and
Julia Smaldone earned 18 points from the 5,000m run. Daman won the race in 19:48.82, and Smaldone placed 2nd in 21:53.75. In total, the Tigers combined for 75 points across the distance events.
Allen won her second event of the day in the 100m hurdles in 15.44.
Kenniqua Grate and Mikhiyah Jones added 18 points to the team total in the high jump. Grate won the event with a height of 1.50m, and Jones was at 1.40m.
Dasia Garland led the way in the long jump, with Grate and Jones following close behind in point placement. Garland placed 4th overall with a mark of 5.00m (-2.5 wind), Grate was 7th at 4.46m (-2.5 wind), and Jones earned the 8th and final point with a mark of 4.30m (-2.5 wind).
Kayla Barr earned a podium finish in the shot put. Barr had a best throw of 10.86m come off her third throw of the day. In the discus throw, Barr was 5th in the finals at 29.81m, and
Layla Taylor was 7th in the standings with a mark of 27.14m. Barr had one more podium finish come from the hammer throw. She placed 3rd with her only clearing throw landing at 36.99m; Taylor placed 7th in the hammer with her mark of 32.79m. Taylor's best finish of the day came from the javelin throw, where she was 2nd in the final standings with a mark of 20.77m.
Allen and Clark traveled down to the UAB Spring Invitational over the weekend after the Blue Raider Rumble on Friday. Allen had a best finish of 5th in the 100m hurdles, running 14.45. Clark ran in the 400m for her lone event at the meet with a 19th-place time of 58.78
Campbellsville will now travel to the Jim Vargo Invitational at Bellarmine University on April 4-5.
