Garland and Shank win individual titles, Campbellsville places 4th at the Mid-South Conference Championships

WILLIAMSBURG, KYDasia Garland and Christy Shank led Campbellsville at the Mid-South Conference Championships to a 4th-place team finish.

Garland won her first Mid-South Conference title of her career in the triple jump. Her best mark came from her third attempt of the day at 11.28 (+0.7 wind). Garland added two more points to her individual total from the long jump, where she placed 7th at 5.01m. Shank won the 1500m where she led wire to wire in the race to cross the line in 4:43.86. She was the runner-up in the 800m run in 2:17.62. Shank's final points were added from the 4x800m relay. Brianna Collins, Shelby Paige, and Julia Smaldone joined Shank, earning a bronze medal in 10:04.59. 

Makiyah Allen completed her busy weekend, earning 14 points individually. She earned her first podium finish of the meet in the 100m finals with a bronze medal finish of 12.42. Allen placed 7th in 25.55 in the 200m finals, and she was 3rd overall in the 100m hurdle finals at 14.45. 

Piper Clark doubled up in the 200m and 400m. She placed 8th in the 200m finals, picking up one team point in 25.85, and was 5th in the 400m in 58.87. Following Shank's runner-up in the 800m, Collins brought four more points from the event, placing 5th overall in 2:23.42. Nina Daman and Emma Madding finished in back-to-back positions in the 10,000m run. Daman earned the bronze medal at 42:04.39, and Madding ran 42:13.19, placing 4th. 

Cailyn Godsey competed in a conservative 5,000m racewalk where she finished in the silver medal position at 30:31.40. Maggie Jewell ran in the 3,000m steeplechase earning the team five points in 13:19.52. 

In the field events, Kenniqua Grate was 4th overall in the high jump at 1.55m. She tied the 3rd place finisher in the event, but Grate cleared her 1.55m mark on her second attempt, while the 3rd place finisher cleared the height on her first attempt of the day. 

Kayla Barr combined for 14 points individual across her three-event weekend. Her highlighted event was the shot put where she earned the bronze medal with a throw of 12.30m on her first attempt. Barr placed 5th in both the discus and hammer throw. In the discus she had a mark of 34.43m and the hammer throw she threw for a mark of 39.66m. 

Layla Taylor was the final point scorer of the meet for Campbellsville. She placed 5th in the javelin throw, with her best mark landing at 22.96m. 

As a team, Campbellsville combined for 106 team points, placing 4th overall. 

The Tigers will have short rest as they will travel to the NCCAA Outdoor Championships May 7-9 in the Columbia, South Carolina hosted by Columbia International University.

  • Shank will look to add to her Campbellsville resume with two meets left to go in her career. She has earned five Mid-South Conference titles, four NCCAA All-American honors, two NCCAA individual titles, and one NAIA All-American honor.
  • Garland won her 5th triple jump of the season at this meet.
