KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Campbellsville University men's wrestling team held steady at #8 in the final regular-season edition of the NAIA Men's Wrestling Coaches' Top 25 Poll, released Wednesday by the national office. The Tigers accumulated 144 team points, finishing just one point behind Mid-South Conference rival #7 Cumberlands (Ky.).
The Tigers head into the postseason with eight individually ranked wrestlers.
Nik Yancey and
Jasitin Kubwimana lead the charge, both checking in at #4 in their respective weight classes. Yancey (149 lbs.) cemented his status with a sudden-victory win over then #1 Victor Guzman of Cumberland last week. Kubwimana (165 lbs.) continues to be a dominant force, collecting bonus points in recent dual victories.
Nick Moore and
Shad Slone also feature prominently in the top 10. Moore lands at #6 at 141 pounds after upsetting #7 Jared Dinh in the dual finale. Slone holds the #6 spot at 174 pounds following a perfect 3-0 week that included two technical falls and a pin.
Brice Parks rounds out the top-10 contingent, ranked #10 at 184 pounds.
Ashton Boswell checks in at #12 at 197 pounds, fresh off a win over a top-15 opponent in the Cumberland dual.
Izaeah Beavers is ranked #14 at 133 pounds, while
Antwaun Burns holds the #16 spot at 157 pounds.
The #8 Tigers carry significant momentum into the postseason after sweeping their final three duals of the regular season. Campbellsville defeated #25 Lindsey Wilson 27-17, dominated Midway 47-9, and took down #13 Cumberland 29-10 to cap the schedule.
Grand View (Iowa) reclaimed the #1 spot with 260 points, followed by Life (Ga.) at #2 and Southeastern (Fla.) at #3.
Campbellsville travels to Bowling Green, Kentucky, on Friday, February 13th, to compete in the Mid-South Conference Championship.
