CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Justin Brown was named the Mid-South Conference Wrestler of the Week for the second time this season, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
The senior earned the weekly accolade after beating four ranked individuals in the 174-pound weight class, while going 5-0 at the NWCA-NAIA National Duals this past week.
Brown started the tournament winning via a ride time tiebreaker against No. 5 Colton Gonzalez of Lindsey Wilson College. The two wrestled to a 3-3 tie throughout the three periods and overtime, but Brown picked up the decision after holding a slight edge in riding time.
Against William Penn University, the native of Valley Springs, California earned a 7-1 decision over Jason Beebe as the Tigers won their first dual of the week. Campbellsville picked up back-to-back dual wins after upsetting No. 6 University of Providence. Against the Argos, Brown edged fourth-ranked Adrian Lyons-Lopez in a 6-3 decision for Brown's second win over a top-five opponent.
On the second day of the national duals, Brown won a 5-2 contest over No. 6 Scott Sopko of Indiana Institute of Technology – who is ranked third in the nation as a team. To finish off the week, Brown took down No. 10 Kody Davis, 4-3, of 14th-ranked Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
This season, Brown is 19-1 overall, while holding a record of 10-0 against NAIA competitors. In the Tigers 11 duals this season, Brown has wrestled in each contest going 11-0.
Brown earns his second weekly of the season and second of his career.
