FORT WORTH — Abby Nette becomes the second Lady Tiger to win US Senior National Championship as she went undefeated throughout the weekend.
With the finals appearance, Nette earned an automatic bid to the U.S. Olympic Team Trials at Penn State in April. She joins
Kayla Miracle as the only two Lady Tigers to win a US Senior National title.
Wrestling at 53 kg, defeated No. 9 seed Tiana Jackson of the Menlo WC, a 2019 NAIA champion, 9-6, in their first meeting on the mat.
Nette, a 2019 WCWA Champion last season for Emmanuel College, scored the first six points of the match and led 6-2 at the break. But Jackson battled back in the second period with a pair of takedowns, and was ahead on criteria with the bout tied at 6-6 as time was running down. Nette broke the tie with a reversal and scored two last-second exposure points to win the bout, 9-6.
In addition to Nette,
Kenya Sloan competed on the weekend and went 2-2 overall. She warned a 9-2 win over Paige Baynes but lost to Jessika Rottier, 10-0, falling to the consolation bracket.
Sloan worked her way through the bracket with a pin over Evangelina Toruno but then lost via tech fall to Brittany Marshall, 10-0, in the consolation of eight.
Nette and Sloan will now get back on the mat for Campbellsville after the new year at the NWCA National Duals in Louisville, Ky. on Jan. 10-11.
