CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -- Campbellsville University wrestling defeated Tiffin University, 29-9, Friday night in its first home spotlight dual of the season in Gosser Gymnasium. The Tigers, currently ranked No. 2 in the NAIA power rankings, dominated most of the meet to win eight out of 10 weight classes.
One win though was a little more significant for one of the Tiger wrestlers. Senior
Tommy Pretty collected his 100th win as a Tiger in a 4-0 decision over Jonathon McKenzie. Pretty is currently ranked No. 2 in the 141-pound weight class.
"It's been a fun ride. I am always trying to evolve my game, every year. Having 100 wins just gives me a reason two end the year as hard as I can, and have fun," Pretty said.
The Tigers got off to a blazing start by winning the first five weights by a combined score of 47-9, and take a 14-0 lead. There were no pins in the dual, but two CU sophomore wrestlers collected wins by major decision, earning four team points each for the Tigers.
Matt Milton (149 pounds) and
Tyler Alsip (133 pounds) both dominated their opponents by a combined score of 25-3.
Sophomore
Allen Scruggs was part of arguably the most exciting match of the night, coming back to take the lead with only seconds remaining, only to lose on a takedown as time expired.
The Tigers will be return to action Saturday, Nov. 19 as hosts of the multi-team Campbellsville University Duals. Weigh-ins will begin at 10 a.m., but the Tigers will not have their first match until 1 p.m. Attending the duals, in addition to CU and Tiffin, are Cumberland University, Indianapolis, Middle Tennessee State University and Shorter College.
