Pierce runs PR at NAIA Championships

LAWRENCE, Kan. – There must be something about running west of the Mississippi. Brett Pierce tied his lifetime personal record Saturday while competing in his first NAIA Men's Cross Country National Championship at the University of Kansas' Rim Rock Farm. His time of 25:49.09 was sixth best among Mid-South Conference runners and ties his second-place finish time from the St. Louis Fall Classic on Oct. 26, 2013.

"I'm very proud of Brett and his performance at the NAIA nationals. He raced really smart for his first showing at the NAIA," said Hilary Lakes, CU head coach. "He had a lot of success this season and definitely earned his spot at the NAIA. He did great!"

Pierce finished 93rd in the 313-man race.

Pierce qualified for the event after finishing sixth at the Mid-South Conference Championships on Nov. 9.

Oklahoma City University won its first team national championship in cross country, while Southern Oregon, Emmanuel (Ga.), St. Francis (Ill.) and Aquanis (Mich.) rounded out the Top 5 in the team standings.
