RIO GRANDE, Ohio – Campbellsville University's Brett Pierce raced his way to a first-place finish Saturday, leading the Tigers to a second-place team standing in the University of Rio Grande Patty Forgey Invitational men's cross country 8K.
Pierce ran the second-best time of his career at 26:38.45. Sophomore Joey Hartlage was fifth with an 8K personal record (PR) of 27:25.88. Dylan Ford was 10th with a 28:00.20 finish, while Andrew Simmons also finished in the Top 15 at 28:27.59.
Freshmen runners Mason Dunbar and Brandon Wiseheart also had PR times of 28:31.24 and 29:41.63, respectively.
Campbellsville entered six other runners in the race: Wade Harris (30:17.35), William Pearson (30:30.50), Bradley Harris (30:57.93), Leighton Lavey (31:31.23), Luke Camp (32:09.72) and Danny Hess (33:14.73).
Rio Grande won the team standings with five of the top nine times.
Campbellsville will return to action Saturday, Oct. 5 in the Greater Louisville Classic.
