Five CU runners set personal records at Queen City

CINCINNATI, Ohio – Campbellsville University men's and women's cross country finished 10th and 12th in their respective 5K races Friday evening at the Queen City Invitational.

Three Tigers set personal records in the race, led by Brett Pierce (15:55.09) for a second-straight week. Dylan Ford (16:12.21) and Joey Hartlage (16:28.43) also had career best times for CU.

The University of Indianapolis won the men's race with two individual Top 10 finishes. Northern Kentucky's JJ Webber ran the best time in the 154-man race with a time of 14:58.62 to lead NKU to a second-place finish. University of the Cumberlands was the lead Mid-South Conference team at the meet, placing fifth with Jonathan Gears placing third individually at 15:03.51. Lindsey Wilson College and Georgetown College finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in the 15-team men's race.

For the women, Sarah Johnson led the Lady Tigers for the second-straight week, finishing with a time of 20:27.54. Megan Charity (21:01.57) and Mallory Vest (21:07.89) each followed with personal best times.

Xavier (Ohio) won the team standings with four individuals in the Top 10. Xavier was led by Abby Fischer, who finished top among 148 runners, with a time of 17:32.16. University of the Cumberlands was the leading Mid-South Conference team, placing sixth, while Georgetown College was eighth and Lindsey Wilson College was 14th.

Campbellsville cross country will take a week off and return to action Sept. 21 at the Berea Invitational in Berea, Ky.
