POINT LOOKOUT, Mo. – Tiger cross country was able to close out their season today as they took runners-up at the NCCAA Championships.
As CU sought to battle out for a national title, they fell short as Cedarville University used a 26:47.46 team average to put up 28 points and overtake the Tigers.
Campbellsville was led by
Sam Kiser and
Camryn Snapp who were honored with All-American finishes, as they both placed within the top 15 of the meet.
Sam Kiser led the Tigers once again as he improved upon last year's 14
th place finish to place sixth this season. Kiser battled with the lead pack for the majority of the race before they spread out the last mile. Kiser's time of 26:46.34 allowed the junior to earn his third consecutive All-American finish.
Snapp squeezed into placing All-American as his 27:22.64 earned him 12
th place overall. As Snapp made the final turn to head into the long downhill finish stretch, he was sitting in 17
th before a massive kick allowed the senior to close his career with the honor.
The duo of
Jiovanni Rivera and
Jacob Hamilton followed Snapp with 22
nd and 23
rd place finishes overall. As Hamilton took off with Snapp for the first part of the race, Snapp started to develop a gap between the two Brooksville natives. Rivera was then able to work his way up to Hamilton as the two powered through the latter portion of the race to finish under the 28-minute mark.
Rivera was able to run a 27:50.20 as Hamilton followed five seconds behind.
The duo of Harp and Sheffield were able to finish neck and neck as well as they took 31
st and 32
nd. Harp and Rivera were able to start the race together, but as Rivera worked his way up to Hamilton, Sheffield moved up to tail Harp. Harp closed finishing in 28:18.69 and Sheffield followed with a 28:22.73.
Christopher Stoeckel was the final Tiger to cross the line Saturday morning as the senior put together a 29:29.25 to place 51
st overall.
The Tigers took second overall after Cedar who placed their five scorers in the top 10 in the meet. Campbellsville was able to tally 91 points for a 27:38.62 team average. CU narrowly escaped a third place finish by three points as Snapp's final surge prove to be crucial.
As a team, this closes out the 2019 campaign. Kiser, however, will be racing on Friday in Vancouver, Wash. for the NAIA Championships.
