BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – On a cool, crisp morning, the Tigers challenged the 8,000-meter course at Phil Moore Park for the Mid-South Conference Championship.
Facing a tough task in dethroning the Shawnee State Bears, the Tigers fell short, as they finished in second place behind the First Team All-MSC performance from
Sam Kiser. With a conservative start, Kiser was able to battle from the middle of the pack to pull out a fifth-place finish, with a final time of 26:08.
This honor was Kiser's second First Team All-MSC honor, and third all-conference honor after a second team performance last season.
Jacob Hamilton,
Josiah Harp, and
Camryn Snapp were all able to pick up top 20 finishes, but narrowly missed all-conference honors. The trio, with the addition of Chris Stoeckel and
Jiovanni Rivera, packed well for the majority of the race before the three up front developed a gap.
Hamilton, Harp, and Snapp only allowed one person between each of them, finishing in 16
th, 18
th, and 20
threspectively. Leading the trio, Hamilton used a 26:53 for his 16
th place finish, missing the all-conference bid by seven seconds.
Harp was able to break the 27-minute barrier following Hamilton with a 26:58. Snapp came in shortly after, running a 27:06.
In the effort, Stoeckel rounded out CU's top five with a strong performance of his own. With a 27:25, Stoeckel marked a 23
rd place finish.
Rivera became the next Tiger runner in, using a 27:44 to finish 27
th overall.
Rounding out Campbellsville's scoring was
Collin Sheffield. Sheffield, racing his first MSC Championship squeezed under the 28 minute mark with a 27:56 for 34
th place.
Also racing for CU was
Brandon Cox (28:25),
Kipkoech Lang'at (28:35), Matthew Fisher (28:38), and
Briley Shrewsberry (29:38).
CU tallied a total team score of 71 with an average time of 26:55 and a 1:17 spread. This score was enough for second place after Shawnee State placed six runners in the top seven for a score of 17 total points. This marks the Tigers fourth consecutive second place finish.
Seth Farmer took the individual title, running a 25:15.
After the meet, CU was honored with their all-conference honorees. Snapp was also recognized as a member of the MSC Champions of Character Team.
The Tigers will now await to see if they received an at-large bid to the NAIA Championship.
Without a bid, CU will send
Sam Kiser to the championships in Vancouver, Washington in two weeks.
Campbellsville will return to action next weekend in Lookout, Mo. for the NCCAA National Championships.
