Tigers harriers open season at MSC Preview on Saturday

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Tiger cross-country opens up their 2019 campaign on Saturday as they head to Bowling Green for the Mid-South Conference Preview. This meet will be a 5,000-meter run that will start at 11:45 a.m. ET.
 
Heading into the 2019 season, the Tigers were selected to finish 28thin the NAIA Preseason Coaches' Poll and 2ndin the Mid-South Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.
 
After only losing two seniors from last years' NAIA qualifying team, the Tigers seek their second Mid-South Conference title since 2015, after they have finished runner-up in the past three years.
 
The Tiger harriers return five sub-27 performers from last season. Jacob Hamilton (25:59) and Jarrett Crawford (26:16) lead the Tigers based on returning times as their performances at the NAIA Championships placed them on the team's all-time top 10 list. Sam Kiser (26:44), Camryn Snapp (26:23), and Christopher Stoeckel (26:53) were also able break the 27-minute barrier last season.
 
Kiser and Hamilton were also honored last season as the pair has picked up Mid-South Conference All-Conference and NCCAA All-American honors last season.
 
Jiovanni Rivera (27:27) and Matthew Fischer (27:29) enter their senior campaigns seeking to improve upon career bests and help guide the Tigers throughout the 2019 season.
 
A trio of sophomores were plagued by injuries for the majority of their freshman seasons, but were ultimately able to make an impact in 2018. Cody Horn and Kipkoech Lang'at both battled injuries throughout the season, but were both able to race and score in the MSC Championships. Lang'at (27:10) finished fifth on the team and was able to place 20thoverall in his Tiger debut. Horn was able to finish 27thand ran a time of 27:29. Josiah Harp was unable to race for much of 2018, but is coming off of a NAIA 4x800 All-American honor and NCCAA qualifying 1500 meters for track season.
 
Along with the returners, the Tigers add freshman Brandon Cox, Ian McAninch, Collin Sheffield, and Briley Shrewsberry to the team.
 
After this meet, the Tigers will head to Berea College for the Berea Invitational on Sept. 14thfor their first 8K run of the season.
