ROME, Ga. -- Campbellsville University finished strong in its higher weights Saturday to put away Shorter University for the second time this season with a 23-17 dual win.Â
Johnny Papesh started the dual off strong with his first tech fall of the season, followed by an 8-4 decision for
Tyler Alsip at 133 pounds.
Matt David was pinned by Shorter's Colby Rinehart at 141 to get the Hawks on the board, cutting the lead to 8-6. Shorter flirted with upset hopes by collecting decisions at 149 and 165 and the lead, but
Josh Ashbrook put away all of hope with a pin at 174 pounds. CU took a 17-13 lead and didn't look back, winning its final three weights with
Allen Scruggs ending a personal four-match losing skid at 184 pounds with a decision over Gunny Hoyt.
Chris Daniels ended a personal five-match skid with his 4-1 decision at heavyweight, while
Spencer Adams clinched the dual with a major decision at 197.
Campbellsville (11-3) travels to Lindsey Wilson College for a MSC dual Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST.
