LAS VEGAS -- Campbellsville University posted a 2-2 record Sunday at the Desert Duals, hosted by Wartburg College (Iowa) at the Flamingo Hotel ballroom.

The Tigers entered the day, forfeiting 18 points in each dual by not weighing in a wrestler for the 125-, 184- and 285-pound weight classes. Among the matches 24 matches wrestled, the Tigers won 19.

After a first round bye, Campbellsville recorded duals wins over William Penn of Iowa, 30-21, and Concordia of Nebraska, 24-21, losing only two matches wrestled. After another two-hour break, Campbellsville was unable to secure wins over third-ranked Grand View University, 26-12, and No. 16 Embry-Riddle Aeronatical University (Ariz.), 30-13.

Spencer Adams, ranked No. 5 at 197 pounds, was the only Tiger to win all four matches Sunday, while Conor Young, ranked No. 6 at 157 pounds, was also undefeated by winning all three matches he wrestled. Young did not compete against Embry-Riddle.

The Tigers wrestled in nine individual NAIA Top 12 matches, winning three. Third-ranked Tommy Pretty, 3-1 on the day, defeated No. 10 Gustavo Martings of Grand View, 8-3, but lost his final match of the day to No. 11 Josh Chang of Embry-Riddle, 7-3. At 157 pounds, Young pinned No. 9 Chad Lowman in the third round. The other Top 12 win belonged to Josh Ashbrook, ranked No. 4 at 174 pounds. Ashbrook defeated No. 6 Alfredo Torres of Concordia, 7-4. Ashbrook joined Pretty, Young and Adams as the only Tigers to win three matches Sunday.

Matt Milton nearly knocked off the No. 1 grappler at 141 pounds, William Penn's Eric Burgey, but came up short, 7-3, after being tied, 3-3, in the third round to start the day. 
 
Campbellsville, 8-3 in duals action, will return to the mats Jan. 7-8 at the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) National Duals in Springfield, Ill.
