"Of course we wanted to win the tournament, but we learned a lot about the toughness and talent of this team today. I'm proud of the guys and how they competed," said Franky James, CU head coach.

The Tigers battled for positition in the Top 3 most of the day, but fell just short of first-place without an individual champion. Tommy Pretty finished runner-up at 141 pounds after collecting three pins in the tournament. Connor Young lost a one-point match in the semifinal at 157 pounds before finishing in third-place. He had two pins on the day. Josh Ashbrook took third-place at 174 pounds, losing in the semifinal to Tiffin University's Jake Cramer for the second time this season. 

Allen Scruggs and Spencer Adams each claimed fourth-place finishes at 184 pounds and 197 pounds, respectively. 

Tyler Alsip and Paul Gryniuk each had three pins in the tournament while finishing fifth at 133 pounds and 165 pounds, respectively. Gryniuk fell in the quarterfinals to the eventual 165-pound champ, while Alsip lost in an overtime semifinal to the eventual 133-pound champion. Matt Milton dropped his first match of the day, but wrestled back to win seven in-a-row, including a pin and four major decisions, to finish fifth at 149 pounds.

On Campbellsville's second team, Travis McIntosh placed fifth at 197 pounds and Nick Waldrop was sixth at 157 pounds. Waldrop was in a tight semifinal match with No. 2-ranked Charles Pingleton of Lindsey Wilson College before tweaking his knee and being unable to finish the day.

"Our guys wrestled well considering it is only early December. I was very happy to see guys fight back through the bracket to place," said assistant coach James Hicks, who coaches the lower weights for CU.

Campbellsville had 138 team points for its first team and 27 points for its second team. Olivet College won the invitational with 147 points. Mercyhurst College was third with 135.5 points, followed by Lindsey Wilson College in fourth with 125.5 points.

CU, 5-0 in duals action, will travel to the University of the Cumberlands on Friday, Dec. 9 for a tri-match with Indiana Tech and Cumberlands, beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.
