SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Campbellsville University finished fifth-place in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Cliff Keen NAIA National Duals Sunday afternoon. The eighth-ranked Tigers defeated No. 9 Missouri Valley University and No. 16 Dakota Wesleyan University to claim the best finish they could since falling to No. 1 Great Falls in Saturday's quarterfinals.

Four Tigers remained unbeaten throughout the weekend: Conor Young (157), Josh Ashbrook (174), Allen Scruggs (184) and Jamelle Jones (197/285).

Campbellsville started the day with a 29-17 victory over Missouri Valley. After the first four weights, the Tigers held a one-point lead, 8-7, after a 19-2 tech fall by Tommy Pretty. The Tigers broke the match open with a pin by Young and two late pins by Scruggs and Jones.

In the fifth-place match, Campbellsville gained extra points in six of their wins, beating Dakota Wesleyan 27-15. Pretty, Matt Milton, Young, Ashbrook, Scruggs and Adams each recorded major decision wins in the dual.

The National Duals gave the Tigers a look at five more NAIA Top 25 programs in preparation for the NAIA National Tournament in March.

CU is now 12-4 in duals action. The Tigers return to action Jan. 14 in the Cumberland University Open in Lebanon, Tenn., and will return to duals action Jan. 17 at No. 5 Lindsey Wilson College.
