Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University recorded its sixth doubleheader sweep of the season Wednesday, taking two games from Mid-Continent University, 6-1 and 3-2, at HIG Field.

In the two games, Campbellsville was out hit 10-to-7 on the day but took advantage of 11 combined errors to scores its nine runs on the day, only four of which were earned. CU also had nine stolen bases in the two games.

In game one, after leaving runners stranded in scoring position in the first and second inning, Campbellsville got on the board in the third. Angelo Simmons led off the inning with a walk and scored on an RBI ground out by Tanner Nielsen after stealing second and third.

CU added two insurance runs in the fifth. Simmons reached on an error off a bunt and swiped second again before taking third on a wild pitch. Simmons scored on an error that put Nielsen on base. Nielsen also stole second and moved to third on a sac bunt by Josh Potter to set up an unearned run opportunity, as Nielsen scored on a wild throw.

Mid-Continent's lone run came in the sixth. Hunter Bolden doubled to center with one out and scored on an RBI double by Joseph Blair.

The Tigers used a three-run sixth inning to put the game away. Aaron Schwoebel drew a one-out walk and Hayes and Simmons followed with base hits. Simmons drove in Schwoebel and later scored on an RBI from Potter.

Drew Pettit (3-0) recorded his first win as a starter, having started only twice now for the Tigers. Pettit threw six innings, allowing one run off five hits and a walk. He struck out four. Dario Bortolotto pitched a scoreless seventh after giving up two base runners.

In game two, both teams were scoreless until the sixth.

Mid-Continent took advantage of two early errors and a fielder's choice to take a 1-0 lead on the Tigers. Dylan Rasch reached on a wild throw by Michael Bush at third base and scored two batters later in a play at the plate. Keaton Neeb, who had just taken over for Carolos Torres as CU's catcher, dropped his left leg and blocked the plate on a ground ball by Blair. Reed Vaughn was called safe as he slide into Neeb at the plate. Moments later though, the call went in favor of the Tigers, as CU recorded a 2-3-2 double play. Neeb threw a dropped third strike to first, and Brandon Johnson quickly fired it back as Bolden was called out as he collided with Neeb for the final out of the inning.

In the bottom of the sixth, Neeb delivered a one-out double, followed by a Johnson single to score courtesy runner Levi McCamish.  Shane Woodson later ran for Johnson and scored on an error at third by Micah Rainwater. Shayne Kelly also scored in the inning on a passed ball. CU left the bases loaded in the inning, but gained a 3-a lead going into the top of the seventh.

The insurance run proved to be the difference as Uriel Hawkins reached base on an error at third by Bush. Manney also reached on an error, putting two on with one out. Rainwater delivered a double to score Hawkins, but was caught not paying attention, as Travis Hayes used the hidden ball trick to tag out the MCU third baseman for the second out. Sean Bouthilette went on to strike out Rasch to end the game with a complete-game outing, giving up three unearned runs and three hits, while striking out five.

Campbellsville (19-4) will return to action Friday and Saturday for a three-game series against the University of Virginia's College at Wise. For gametime information, visit CampbellvilleTigers.com.
