Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A pair of three-run fifth innings proved costly for the Campbellsville University Tigers Monday, dropping a doubleheader at No. 18 Auburn University-Montgomery, 5-3 and 3-0.

Campbellsville's only lead in the doubleheader came in the top of the fourth in game one. Michael Bush was hit by a pitch and Tanner Nielsen walked to start the inning before Aaron Schwoebel reached on a fielder's choice. A poor throw on a pickoff move scored Bush to tie the game, 1-1, before Keaton Neeb doubled in Schwoebel.

AUM scored three in the fifth on three hits, two walks and an error. All three runs were charged to starter Bret DeRooy (1-1) for his first loss of the season. Shelby Nobles doubled in one run, and later scored on a wild pitch. Wes Hughes scored the second run of the inning on a wild throw.

The Tigers managed to get one run back in the seventh on a two-out RBI single from Nielsen to score Josh Potter, who was 2-for-3 on the day. The Tigers left two stranded in the inning. AUM's Hayden Hillyer drove in the Senator's first run in the second inning.

In the second game, Tiger starter Tylar Schmunk carried a one-hit shutout into the fifth before giving up a runner on an error and then a single to Hillyer to start the inning. The junior pitcher got a sac punt and infield pop up before striking out Brandon Kelly for what would have been the third out. However, the third strike on Kelley was wild, allowing him to reach and scoring courtesy runner Blake Woo. Schmunk also had a throwing error in the inning to score a run and Bush had a fielding error at third to score the Warhawks' third run.

The Tigers were retired in order in the sixth and seventh.

Schmunk (1-1) allowed only two hits and two walks in the game and struck out nine. All three of his runs allowed were unearned. Jeff Larabee also made a brief appearance, recording th final out in the sixth.

Nielsen led CU's offense in the nightcap, going 2-for-3, while Bush and Shane Woodson had the other Tiger hits.

Campbellsville (8-4) will return to action Tuesday at the AUM Baseball Complex to host Campbellsville for game thee of the series. Start time is 2 p.m. EST.
