An Elizabethtown, Kentucky native, Demond Thomas becomes the second Tiger baseball player to be inducted into the Campbellsville University Hall of Fame joining fellow pitcher, and 2016 inductee, Donnie Johnson as well as 2002 inductee Coach Danny Davis. Thomas, who played under head coach Beauford Sanders in 1995 and 1996, is the only two-time All-American in the program’s history upon induction in the fall of 2021. He transferred to Campbellsville from Northeast Texas Community College and was named the Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (KIAC) Player of the Year and the NAIA-District 32 Regional Player of the Year both seasons as a Tiger. He also helped lead the Tigers to the 1995 Kentucky Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament Championships and the 1996 KIAC Conference Regular Season and Tournament titles. In 1996, Thomas and the Tigers reached the NAIA Regional finals for the first time in program history. Thomas left his mark on the program and remains in the Top 10 in multiple statistical categories. In single-season records, Thomas sits third in strikeouts (94; 1995), fourth in homeruns (16; 1995), fifth in runs batted in (66; 1995), and fifth in wins (9; 1995). In his career, he is eighth in program history with 23 home runs, a batting average of .352, and strikeouts with 170. He’s also ninth in CU history in wins on the mound with 16. Thomas was a true dual threat athlete, playing third base when not on the mound. Demond was drafted by the Chicago White Sox in the 8th round out of Elizabethtown High School. After his playing days were over, Thomas became the first and only player to have his number retired by the baseball program. The #15 hasn’t been worn since 1997 when it was retired.
