Complete Bio

Don Bishop served Campbellsville University as director of athletics from 1968 until his retirement in 1997. He was also a professor in the physical education department and was granted faculty  emeritus status in 1998.
   
A 1955 graduate of Campbellsville Junior College, Bishop continued his education at Union University where he graduated in 1957 with a bachelor of science degree. He received his masters of arts degree from Eastern Kentucky University on 1965. He graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1953. 
   
Bishop has been honored in many ways for his talents including receiving the NAIA District 32 Athletic Administrator of the Year for 1987-88 and 1990-91 and the NAIA Award of Merit for 1990-91.
   
He was instrumental in starting soccer, swimming, and diving for men and women and oversaw the reinstatement of football at Campbellsville following a 50-year absence as well as the reinstatement of cross country. 
   
He has given private swimming lessons to more than 10,000 children earning him the reputation from parents as a gentle and effective instructor. 
   
A fond lover of antiques and history, Bishop is enjoying his retirement with his wife, June Carol Holman Bishop. The couple has two daughters, Robyn Carol and Susan Leigh.
   
A teacher and coach, Bishop left a lasting mark on Campbellsville University with career as Campbellsville's chef athletic administrator, cheerleader, and supporter. 

He passed away on Dec, 27, 2017 at 2:15 a.m. ET at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, Ky. He was 82.
