  • Dr. Ralph A. Gardner graduated from Campbellsville Junior College in 1930.
  • Gardner played on the football and basketball teams while at the college.
  • Gardner completed his bachelor’s degree from the University of Kentucky in 1935.
  • Gardner taught physics and served as assistant basketball coach at Midway High School while completing his master’s degree at the University of Kentucky in 1937.
  • He finished his Ph. D in 1943 through a fellowship at Duke University.
  • Gardner was in active duty with the United States Naval Reserve from 1943 to 1946.
  • In 1971, Gardner set up a private counseling practice from which he retired in 1986.
  • Gardner and his wife, Darlene, live in Jamestown, Kentucky.
  • They have four children, Pat Kooma, Sam Vogal, Andy Gardner, Bill Gardner, and nine grandchildren.
