Coach Lou Cunningham was head basketball coach at Campbellsville College-University for 25 years. He taught many young men about the game of basketball and life.
His teams always played hard mainly out of respect to the coach that was a father figure to many and a friend to all. He was well respected by his fellow coaches who voted him KIAC Coach of the year in 1970-71, 1979-80, and 1989-90 and District 32 Coach of the Year in 1979-80, 1989-90, and 1990-91. His teams were always competitive.
 
His accomplishments include:
  • District 32 Tournament Champions 1980-81 and 1990-91.
  • District 32 Tournament Runner-Up 1992-93, 1993-94, and 1994-95.

Lou Cunningham’s last win came in tournament play the last year he coached due to his untimely death on May 13, 1997. Lou will always be remembered for his love and dedication to the game of basketball, to the University, and to the many young men he was so fond of.
