Mike Mason, a Loveland, Ohio native, becomes the third individual Tiger football player to be inducted into the Campbellsville University Hall of Fame. He joins fellow Fighting Tigers, and 2016 inductees, Demetrius Forney and Donnie Johnson as well as the 1988 Team, Assistant coach Sam Wickliffe (2003) and legendary CU coach Ron Finley (2012). Mason, who played under head coach Ron Finley, was the first quarterback to ever play for Campbellsville University. He was named to the 1989 All-NAIA District 32 Football team and was a 1990 First-Team All Mid-South Conference member. Mason led the Tigers to their first victory in program history on September 9, 1989 vs. University of Evansville with a final score of 20-16. In 1989 and 1990, he was named a College Football Preview Magazine All-American. In Mason’s sophomore season, he threw for 1,123 yards and nine touchdowns, and averaged 115 yards per game with a 47% completion rate. He finished his career with a 38.5% completion percentage, throwing for 2,442 yards and 25 touchdowns. Mason also carried the ball 410 times for 1,037 yards and found the endzone nine times. During his career, he was named NAIA Player of the Week five times. Mason also holds a couple of records for the Fighting Tigers. He has the third Longest Rush from Scrimmage at 86 yards on October 20, 1990. He also sits at fifth on the list for Average Yards per Completion with 16.8 yards per completion. After his playing days at Campbellsville University, Mason would head overseas to Germany where he played professional football for one season.
